Oculi Omnium
Text from Psalm 125:15
Music by Bob Chilcott

Oculi omnium in te sperant, Domine:
et tu das escam illorum
in tempore opportuno.
Gloria Tibi Domine. Amen.
The eyes of all wait upon thee, O Lord,
and Thou givest them their meat
in due season.
Glory to Thee, O Lord. Amen.

Sing Joyfully
Text from Psalm 81:1–4
Music by William Byrd

Sing joyfully unto God our strength; sing loud unto the God of Jacob!
Take the song, and bring forth the timbrel, the pleasant harp, and the viol.
Blow the trumpet in the new moon, even in the time appointed, and at our feast day.
For this is a statute for Israel, and a law of the God of Jacob.

Cantate Domino
Text from Psalm 96: 1–3
Music by Hans Leo Hassler

Cantate Domino canticum novum:
cantate Domino omnis terra.
Cantate Domino, et benedicite nomini ejus:
annuntiate de die in diem salutare ejus.
Annuntiate inter Gentes gloriam ejus:
in omnibus populis mirabilia ejus.

Sing to the Lord a new song:
sing to the Lord, all the earth.
Sing to the Lord and bless his name:
proclaim his salvation every day without end.
Tell his glory among the nations:
in every land tell his marvelous deeds.

O Nata Lux
10th century Latin Hymn Music by Morten Lauridsen

O nata lux de lumine
Jesu redemptor saeculi
dignare clemens supplicum
laudes preces que sumere

Qui carne quondam contegi
Dignatus es pro perditis
Nos membra confer effici
Tui beati corporis

O Light born of Light,
Jesus, redeemer of the world,
mercifully deem worthy and accept
the praises and prayers of your supplicants.

Thou who once deigned to be clothed in flesh
for the sake of the lost ones,
grant us to be made members
of your holy blessed body.

for evening shadows darken,
and the day will soon be over.

Now Is the Month of Maying
Words and Music by Thomas Morley

Now is the month of maying,
When merry lads are playing, Fa La
Each with his bonny lass
Upon the greeny grass. Fa La
The Spring clad all in gladness,
Doth laugh at Winter’s sadness, Fa la
And to the bagpipe’s sound
The nymphs tread out their ground, Fa la
Fie then why sit we musing
Youth’s sweet delight refusing? Fa La
Say dainty nymphs and speak,
Shall we play barley break? Fa La

Fair Phyllis I Saw
Words and Music by John Farmer

Fair Phyllis I saw sitting all alone
Feeding her flock near to the mountain side
Fair Phyllis I saw sitting all alone
Feeding her flock near to the mountain side
The shepherds knew not whither she was gone
But after her lover
But after her lover
But after her lover Amyntis Hyde
Up and down he wandered
While she was missing
When he found her
Oh then they fell a-kissing
Oh then they fell a-kissing
A-kissing oh then
They fell a-kissing
Up and down he wandered
While she was missing
When he found her
Oh then they fell a-kissing
Oh then they fell a-kissing
A-kissing oh then
They fell a-kissing

Revecy venir du Printans
Text by Jean Antoine de Baïf
Music by Claude le Jeune

Revecy venir du Printans.
L’amoureuz’ et belle saizon.

Le courant des eaus recherchant,
Le canal d’été s’éclaircît;
Et la mer calme de ces flots,
Amolit le triste courrous:
Le Canard s’égay’ se plonjant,
Et se lave coint dedans l’eau.
Et la grû’ qui fourche son vol,
Retraverse l’air et s’en va.

(Refrain)

Le Soleil éclaire luizant,
D’une plus séreine clairté:
Du nuage l’ombre s’enfuit,
Qui se ioû’ et court et noircît.
Et foretz et champs et coutaus,
Le labeur humain reverdît,
Et la prê’ découvre ses fleurs.

(Refrain)

De Venus le filz Cupidon,
L’univers semant de ses trais,
De sa flamme va réchaufér.
Animaus, qui volet en l’air,
Animaus, qui rampet au chams
Animaus, qui naget auz eaus
Ce qui mesmement ne sent pas,
Amoureux se fond de plaizir.

(Refrain)

Rion aussi nous: et cherchon
Les ébas et ieus du Printans:
Toute chose rit de plaizir:
Sélébron la gaye saizon.

(Refrain)

Here again comes the Spring,
the amorous and fair season.

The currents of water that seek
The canal in summer become clearer;
And the sea calms her waves,
softens the sad anger.
The duck, elated, dives in,
And washes itself happily in the water.
And the crane breaks its path,
Crosses back and flies away.

(Refrain)

The sun shines brightly
with a most serene clarity:
From the cloud the shadow flies
and plays and runs and darkens.
And forests and fields and hillsides,
human labor makes green again,
and the prairie unveils its flowers.

(Refrain)

From Venus’ son, Cupid,
the universe is seeded in milk,
is warned by his flames.
Animals that fly in the air,
animals that slither in the fields,
animals that swim in the seas,
even those that feel not,
once in love, are melted by pleasure.

(Refrain)

So let us laugh: and let us seek out
the frolicking and the games of Spring:
All the world laughs in pleasure:
Let us celebrate the happy season.

(Refrain)

Down by the Riverside
Traditional Spiritual Arranged by Robert Rice

Lay that burden down
I'm gonna lay down my burden
Down by the riverside
And study war no more

Ain't gonna study war
Ain't gonna study war no more

I'm gonna put on my long white robe
Down by the riverside
And study war no more

Ain't gonna study war
Ain't gonna study war no more

I'm gonna walk with the Prince of Peace
Down by the riverside
And study war no more

Ain't gonna study war
Ain't gonna study war no more
I'm gonna lay that burden right down, right down!

We Are
Text by Maya Angelou
Music by Bob Chilcott

We are more alike than we are unalike, my friends.
I note the obvious differences in the human family.
Some of us are serious, some thrive on comedy.
Some declare their lives are lived as true profundity,
And others claim they really live the real reality.
The variety of our skin tones can confuse, bemuse, delight,
Brown and pink, and purple, tan and blue and white.
I’ve sailed upon the seven seas and stopped in every land.
I’ve seen the wonders of the world not yet one common man.
I know ten thousand woman called Jane and Mary Jane.
I’ve not seen any two who really were the same.
Mirror twins are different though their features jibe,
And lovers think quite different, lying side by side.
We love and lose in China, we weep on England’s moors,
And laugh and moan in Guinea, and thrive on Spanish shores.
Seek success in Finland, are born and die in Maine.
In minor ways we differ, in major we’re the same.
I note the obvious differences between each sort and type,
But we are more alike, my friends, than we are unalike.

Blackbird
Words and Music by John Lennon and Paul McCartney
Arranged by Daryl Runswick

Blackbird singing in the dead of night
Take these broken wings and learn to fly
All your life
You were only waiting for this moment to arise
Blackbird singing in the dead of night
Take these sunken eyes and learn to see
All your life
You were only waiting for this moment to be free
Blackbird, fly
Blackbird, fly
Into the light of the dark black night
Blackbird, fly
Blackbird, fly
Into the light of the dark black night
Blackbird singing in the dead of night
Take these broken wings and learn to fly
All your life
You were only waiting for this moment to arise
You were only waiting for this moment to arise
You were only waiting for this moment to arise

The Gift To Be Simple
Traditional Shaker Tune
Arranged by Bob Chilcott

’Tis the gift to be simple, ’tis the gift to be free,
’Tis the gift to come down where you ought to be,
And when we find ourselves in a place just right,
’Twill be in the valley of love and delight.
When true simplicity is gained,
To bow and to bend we shan’t be ashamed,
To turn, turn will be our delight,
Till by turning, turning we come round right.

That Lonesome Road
Words and Music by James Taylor and Don Grolnick
Arranged by Simon Carrington

Walk down that lonesome road
All by yourself
Don't turn your head
Back over your shoulder
And only stop to rest yourself
When the silver moon
Is shining high above the trees
If I had stopped to listen once or twice
If I had closed my mouth and opened my eyes
If I had cooled my head and warmed my heart
I'd not be on this road tonight
Carry on
Never mind feeling sorry for yourself
It doesn't save you from your troubled mind
Walk down that lonesome road
All by yourself
Don't turn your head
Back over your shoulder
And only stop to rest yourself
When the silver moon
Is shining high above the trees

Penny Lane
Words and Music by John Lennon and Paul McCartney
Arranged by Bob Chilcott

Penny Lane, there is a barber showing photographs
Of every head he's had the pleasure to know
And all the people that come and go
Stop and say, "Hello"

On the corner is a banker with a motorcar
And little children laugh at him behind his back
And the banker never wears a Mac in the pouring rain
Very strange

Penny Lane is in my ears and in my eyes
Wet beneath the blue suburban skies
I sit and meanwhile back in

Penny Lane, there is a fireman with an hourglass
And in his pocket is a portrait of the Queen
He likes to keep his fire engine clean
It's a clean machine
Penny Lane, is in my ears and in my eyes
A four of fish and finger pies
In summer, meanwhile back

Behind the shelter in the middle of a roundabout
A pretty nurse is selling poppies from a tray
And though she feels as if she's in a play
She is anyway

Penny Lane, the barber shaves another customer
We see the banker sitting waiting for a trim
And then, the fireman rushes in from the pouring rain
Very strange

Penny Lane is in my ears and in my eyes
There beneath the blue suburban skies
I sit and meanwhile back

Penny Lane is in my ears and in my eyes
There beneath the blue suburban skies
Penny Lane
